Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole, recovering from Tommy John surgery, has crossed significant milestones in his rehabilitation. He has resumed being active in the team's dugout after being free of his brace and gaining more range of motion. Although he is unable to pitch this season, he's focused on taking small recovery steps, with the primary goal of throwing again by August. While acknowledging the difficulties of the recovery process, Cole remains optimistic about a return to the mound by next April, contingent upon a rigorous rehab plan.
It stunk. Yeah, it stinks. But now that I'm stronger and less worried about getting bumped and things like that, it's nice to be able to be back.
In the meantime, Cole is focused on the smaller milestones along the way. The biggest one on his mind is picking up a ball and throwing in August.
