Jesús Montero, a Venezuelan catcher who played for the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners, died at age 35 following a traffic accident in Venezuela. His motorcycle crashed into a truck on Oct. 4, and he remained hospitalized in critical condition before succumbing to multiple injuries. He played 18 games with the Yankees in 2011 and 208 games with the Mariners through 2015, finishing his major league career with a .253 average, 28 home runs and 104 RBI. He received two 50-game suspensions for stimulant violations in 2013 and 2016 while in the minors. He played six Venezuelan Winter League seasons and retired after the 2020-2021 season.
