Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees slugger and two-time American League MVP, has been named captain of Team USA for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. This will be Judge's first appearance in the WBC, having missed the 2023 tournament where the USA finished as runners-up against Japan. In expressing his excitement, Judge emphasized the significance of representing his country and honoring military service members while playing the sport he loves. With an exceptional start to the 2025 season, Judge aims to contribute significantly alongside manager Mark DeRosa and pitching coach Andy Pettitte.
Just getting a chance to represent this country, what this country means to me...it's a great opportunity. I never had this opportunity before, even growing up as a kid.
I'm definitely looking forward to it...for me, it's a time to reflect about all the brave men and women that have fought for this country.
