Adam Macko's MLB debut goes smoothly under bright lights of Yankee Stadium

Adam Macko made his MLB debut for the Toronto Blue Jays against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, pitching a scoreless inning. He entered the bottom of the sixth with a runner on first and faced J.C. Escarra, using off-speed pitches including sliders and a curveball to induce a weak groundout to first base. In the bottom of the seventh, he retired Paul Goldschmidt on a groundball to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Macko then worked through a seven-pitch at-bat against Ben Rice, getting a lineout to right field. After retiring Rice, he was replaced by Yariel Rodríguez with Aaron Judge due up, and Macko earned his first career hold while the Blue Jays led 5-3.

"The 25-year-old made his MLB debut on Monday night, pitching a scoreless inning during the Toronto Blue Jays' 7-6 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Macko entered in the bottom of the sixth inning with a runner on first to face Yankees catcher J.C. Escarra. In the left-on-left matchup, Macko went heavy off-speed, throwing Escarra three sliders and one curveball before getting him to ground out weakly to first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who calmly scooped up the ball and stepped on first."

"The left-hander returned for the bottom of the seventh with the Yankees' top of the order awaiting. Macko got ahead in the count against first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and was able to retire the seven-time All-Star on another groundball to Guerrero. Next up was MLB slugging and OPS leader Ben Rice. Rice, who has 15 home runs in 2026. Macko and Rice engaged in a seven-pitch battle, with Macko eventually coming out on top."

"The Vauxhall Jets alum got Rice to lineout to right fielder Yohendrick Piñango, fighting his way back after falling behind 2-0 in the count. After retiring Rice and with Aaron Judge coming to the plate, Blue Jays manager John Schneider hopped out from the third base dugout to bring in Yariel Rodríguez, ending Macko's night. The left-hander picked up his first career hold, preserving the Blue Jays' 5-3 lead at the time, before the game went south."

"Macko enters Tuesday's contest against the Yankees with a clean 0.00 ERA and would presumably be available after only requiring 15 pitches to record his three outs. The Canadian-affiliated pitcher earned his call-up to MLB on Sunday after Tommy Nance was placed on the injured list with right forearm tightness."
