Aaron Judge hit his 358th career home run to tie Yogi Berra for fifth on the New York Yankees' all-time list during a 3-2 loss to the White Sox at Rate Field. Judge has 43 homers this season and sits three behind Joe DiMaggio (361). The homer was Judge's second straight game with a long ball and his third in five games, despite a 24-game stretch since returning from the injured list for a right elbow flexor strain. He entered Sunday batting .218 with a .856 OPS over the first 23 games of that stretch, continues to serve as DH while progressing his throwing, and narrowly missed a second homer before settling for a double and later scoring on Cody Bellinger's double.
The way Yogi played the game, what he meant to pinstripes, you knew how much it meant being a New York Yankee to him. I feel the same way. I'm honored to wear this jersey, so it's pretty cool to be on that list with him.
He's certainly earned his way into those rarefied air names with the career he's put together so far. "He's as good as we've seen in this generation."
I haven't been getting on base enough for the guys behind me recently," said Judge, who has continued to serve as the DH while going through his throwing progression in hopes of playing right field again in September. "Just trying to improve a little bit there, so anytime I can get out there and let Belli finish it, it's a good day.
