2000 Yankees Diary, May 9: Paulie's keen eye walks it off
Briefly

In a memorable matchup 25 years ago, the New York Yankees faced the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, winning the first game in commanding fashion with Andy Pettitte on the mound. As they progressed into a tougher second game, despite an early deficit, pitcher David Cone demonstrated resilience by recovering after yielding three runs. His ability to navigate through innings efficiently contributed significantly to the Yankees holding onto their lead, leading them to eventual victory and reinforcing their strong position in the division.
From that point forward, Cone would actually stop the bleeding, and help to keep the Yankees alive in the ballgame.
The pitch counts go down and a sense of pattern comes into his work. Miguel Cairo...is out on an easy bouncer to third.
