A bison gored a 47-year-old tourist at Yellowstone National Park when he got too close to the animal, but he only sustained minor injuries. The incident occurred at Lake Village, known for its bison population. Officials warned that bison are unpredictable and can run faster than humans. This incident was the first goring of the year, following previous encounters in previous years. Visitors are reminded to keep a safe distance from wildlife, with specific distance guidelines provided by park officials to prevent such incidents.
At least two people were gored by bison at the park last year, including an 83-year-old South Carolina woman who was seriously injured.
It is your responsibility to stay more than 25 yards away from all large animals - bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes - and at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves.
Bison will defend their space when threatened and have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal.
The goring was the first such violent encounter of the year at the park.
