Sandro Schwarz, head coach of the New York Red Bulls, expressed frustration over Major League Soccer's scheduling rules following a 1-1 draw in Toronto where three players were injured. After an 11-day break for the Club World Cup, players were required to take five days completely away from the team, leaving insufficient time for match readiness. Schwarz noted the inherent risks associated with returning so soon, particularly as some players faced serious injuries shortly after returning to play, emphasizing the need for better preparation frameworks within the league.
I'd love to speak to the guy who is responsible for that rule. Everyone knows that you need good preparation, but the rule of five days off during breaks, it's not possible.
It's a new experience for me, and this is not the best idea. We lost two players. We are not allowed to control the guys during this break, and then they directly have to be ready in the middle of the season? Come on.
