Why Mets pitching coach isn't worried about starters' short outings - yet
Briefly

The New York Mets have started the season strong with a 2.10 ERA, largely fueled by an impressive bullpen. Their starting pitchers hold a notable 2.43 ERA, ranking first in MLB, though they average just 4 ²/₃ innings per start. Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner acknowledges the starters' success but notes the need to reduce walk rates (4.85 per nine innings) and increase pitch counts to lessen bullpen strain. While currently manageable, the team is focused on sustained performance throughout the season.
We have attacked the strike zone for the most part. We have still got a little bit of work to do there from a first-pitch strike perspective, and walks are up just a little bit, but otherwise, we are getting strikeouts and ground balls.
It's a no-frills unit that perhaps is exceeding expectations, with Clay Holmes, Tylor Megill, Griffin Canning, David Peterson and Kodai Senga carrying the load.
