Tom Seaver's 1969 World Series ring headlines $1.8M memorabilia auction
"A lot of this stuff is sentimental, emotional and important to Tom's family. It's always a tough decision, and [the items are] going to go to people that are ultimately going to love, cherish, enjoy and display this stuff."
"What makes the most sense is to put [his stuff] out there and let his fans enjoy it. In total, nearly 200 items consigned by the Seaver family, each with a letter of provenance, sold over the weekend for more than $1.8 million."
Tom Seaver's 1969 World Series ring achieved a record price of $854,122 at Heritage Auctions, becoming the most valuable Seaver collectible and the third-highest price ever paid for a sports championship ring. The legendary Mets pitcher, a 12-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young Award winner, passed away in August 2020 at age 75 from Lewy body dementia and COVID-19 complications. The Seaver family consigned nearly 200 items for auction, including his 1973 NL championship ring, Hall of Fame induction plaque, Rookie of the Year Award, and various All-Star and championship rings. The complete collection sold for over $1.8 million, with each item authenticated by a letter of provenance.
