President Donald Trump threatened to withhold hundreds of billions of dollars from New York City if Zohran Mamdani wins the mayoral race. Rep. Claudia Tenney criticized Mamdani’s far-left policies, labeling them communist and warning of doubled or tripled taxes, business flight, declining resources, and higher regulatory burdens that also impact upstate small businesses. Tenney connected Mamdani to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the "defund the police" movement and warned of demoralized policing. Governor Kathy Hochul endorsed Mamdani and could enact supportive statewide legislation. Mamdani apologized to the New York Police Department for prior comments and pledged to work with law enforcement if elected.
