Ronny Mauricio, a Mets infielder, is currently in the minor leagues even though he is reportedly healthy following extensive rehab from a torn ACL. Mets president David Stearns indicated the team has until May 16 to decide Mauricio's future, emphasizing the need for him to regain true baseball shape. Stearns expressed confidence in Mauricio's progress, noting he will soon begin playing at Triple-A. Due to complications from his injury, Mauricio was out of competitive baseball for over a year, necessitating a gradual return to form.
Ronny continues to progress. Still in Double-A. We'll get him up to Triple-A here pretty soon. It's just play all three [positions] on the infield, continue to build up volume.
It's certainly taken longer than we anticipated. He was out of baseball competition for over a year. That's a big hill to climb to get back.
We have a player who is medically healthy, who has checked off a lot of the boxes in the rehab progression, has worked really hard to get there.
To get back into that true baseball shape, ready to compete at a high level in the big leagues, we still got a little bit of a ways to go.
