Long Island softball team enjoying historic season with playoffs next
Briefly

Sachem North softball has achieved a remarkable milestone with a record of 15-4 in league play, marking their best season to date. Manager Ken Sasso expressed pride in reaching this achievement. Sophomore catcher Delaney Mathes stands out with an impressive batting average of .685 while emphasizing the team's collective goal of advancing further than the previous year's second-round exit. The team exhibits a unique spirit, as highlighted by third baseman Brooke Giordano, and focuses on maintaining a positive mental state throughout the season. As they prepare for the playoffs, their camaraderie and energy bode well for their pursuit of a county title.
"You kind of don't realize what you're in until it's over," manager Ken Sasso told The Post. "But when we won that 15th game, and I looked back at our record, I'm like, 'Wow, we never won 15 games in-league.'"
"I definitely want to win the county ... especially just to make it farther than last year would be really great," said catcher Delaney Mathes, reflecting the team's ambition.
"There's never a down moment," said third baseman Brooke Giordano, highlighting the team's energy and spirit during games.
"They're helping us stay in the right state of mind," junior shortstop Bella Kriklava mentioned about the coaching's focus on mental preparation over mechanics.
