David Wright's No. 5 jersey was retired at Citi Field on July 19, 2025, amid emotional tributes. Despite difficulties in maintaining composure during his final game in 2018, Wright embraced the poignant atmosphere as fans celebrated his legacy. His career, marked by outstanding performance interrupted by injuries, prevented Hall of Fame induction; however, he was honored as the 10th player to have his number retired and became the 35th member of the Mets Hall of Fame. Wright expressed disbelief at such an honor during his childhood dreams.
David Wright noted, "That meant the world. I fully realized the extended relationship with the city of New York and this Mets fan base."
Wright reflected on his journey saying, "If you would've told a young David Wright to imagine this day, I would've said, You're crazy. No way. Impossible."
