"It would definitely be a privilege to work with Carlos and his staff helping the Mets, doing whatever [they need], Alfonzo told amNewYork. It would be a privilege to join the big-league club. Following a decorated playing career that spanned 12 MLB seasons from 1995-2006 he called Queens home from 1995-2002 Alfonzo hasn't strayed far from the organization that signed him 34 years ago while attempting to build up his coaching resume."
Edgardo Alfonzo is pursuing a role on Carlos Mendoza's coaching staff as the Mets undergo a broad post-2025 collapse shakeup. Multiple coaches were dismissed by president David Stearns, including hitting coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes, pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, and third-base coach Mike Sarbaugh. Bench coach John Gibbons resigned and catching instructor Glenn Sherlock retired, while assistants Desi Druschel and Jose Rosado were given permission to speak with other teams. Alfonzo played 12 MLB seasons from 1995–2006 and remained connected to the Mets organization while building a coaching résumé.
