"Each week, I witness ICE agents become brownshirts, conducting more abductions and becoming increasingly violent as they detain our immigrant neighbors in deplorable conditions or ship them to far away places.""
More than a dozen city and state officials, including multiple Brooklyn lawmakers and city leaders, were arrested during protests at Manhattan’s Federal Plaza against federal immigration enforcement. The group sought access to DHS holding cells on the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza and displayed a banner reading "NYers Against ICE." After being denied entry for about 20 minutes, the officials remained in a hallway for roughly 40 more minutes before arrests occurred. Ten of the officials were detained by Department of Homeland Security agents. The effort aimed to verify compliance with a preliminary injunction addressing overcrowding, unsanitary, and inhumane conditions in the holding areas.
