AJ Minter, the left-handed reliever for the Mets, will have surgery next Monday to repair a torn lat muscle. This injury follows the advisory for fellow left-hander Danny Young, who requires Tommy John surgery. Minter had been performing well with a 1.64 ERA over 11 innings this season, but despite precautions taken by the Mets, including limited ramp-up, he has succumbed to injury. Genesis Cabrera has been promoted to fill his role, while Brooks Raley is still recovering from his own Tommy John surgery and expected to return in late June.
Considering his previous injury history entering the 2025 season, the Mets practiced an abundance of caution while ramping Minter up, yet it still did not work.
In 11 innings (13 appearances), he possessed a 1.64 ERA with 14 strikeouts.
We tried to give him proper rest, and he still went down.
The Mets promoted Genesis Cabrera, who has recently served as the bullpen's lone southpaw.
