Ain't No Indignity Low Enough
Briefly

The article discusses the mixture of stadium traditions and modern restrictions at Citi Field, drawing parallels with a nostalgic clip from the Shea Stadium era. The author appreciates the creativity behind incorporating iconic film moments into game entertainment, but expresses frustration over recent security rules that prohibit bringing in certain beverages. This contradiction underscores the tension between enhancing the fan experience and imposing regulations that seem arbitrary and detract from that experience.
Cue Peter Finch as UBS anchorman Howard Beale: "I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell..." At this point a drumbeat throbs and a graphic imploring Let's Go Mets! takes over the big screen.
It loses a little of its impact when it's embedded amidst umpteen-dozen other admonitions, but I'll never not appreciate that somebody more than a quarter-century ago thought to incorporate the crescendo portion of the legendary 'Mad as Hell' rant from Network into a baseball game.
I don’t appreciate... the polite security goons who insisted that I could not bring into said facility one sealed twenty-ounce soft-sided bottle of carbonated beverage.
The bottle... is not open. It is not glass. It is not alcoholic. It is admittedly not juice or water, but that had never presented a problem for me before the night of Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
