Jonquel Jones, the star center of the New York Liberty, has reaggravated a sprained right ankle and will be sidelined for four to six weeks. Initially injured during a match against the Washington Mystics, she had recently returned but faced challenges in her performance. Despite avoiding a long-term injury, the team will have to manage without the 2021 WNBA MVP, who has been a key player for them. Nyara Sabally will take over the starting center role during this period.
New York Liberty star center Jonquel Jones will miss the next four to six weeks after reaggravating a sprained right ankle during Thursday's 89-81 loss to the Phoenix Mercury.
Further imaging revealed that she has avoided a long-term injury, meaning New York's frontcourt will have to stay afloat for roughly a month without the 2021 WNBA MVP.
The Liberty will now turn to Nyara Sabally to step in at the starting center role during Jones' absence, as she has missed six of the first eight games due to a knee injury.
Jones has been a dominant force in the league since she was drafted No. 6 overall in 2016, accumulating impressive accolades including a WNBA MVP.
