He emigrated from Calabria, Italy, and said he loves the United States, adding that without emigration he would have been stuck under Mussolini. Critelli served as an Army staff sergeant, survived the Normandy landings and the Battle of the Bulge, and earned multiple medals including the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, the American Theater Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. Emmanuel Macron recently knighted him.
