"I am pleased to advise that I reversed the cuts made to Homeland Security and Counterterrorism for New York City and State. It was my Honor to do so,"
"Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
"From the moment these devastating cuts were announced, I made it clear that New York would not stand by while our law enforcement and counterterrorism operations were defunded,"
"I'm glad President Trump heard our call and reversed course, ensuring our state has the resources necessary to support law enforcement and keep our families safe."
President Donald Trump announced the reversal of $187 million in cuts to New York homeland security and counterterrorism funding. The cuts had represented 86% of the state's homeland security funding, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul, and would have reduced NYPD counterterrorism funding from $90 million to nearly $10 million. Officials including Hochul and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the proposed reductions a devastating blow and warned New York remains a top terror target. Hochul credited political pushback for the restoration, and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said she had spoken with Trump and opposed the cuts.
