Prosecutors detail spree of hate crimes allegedly committed by Staten Island woman
"As alleged by authorities, Horne committed her first offenses in front of 8902 5th Avenue in Brooklyn around 2:20 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30. According to court documents, a detective was informed by the victim in this initial episode that Horne allegedly walked up to the hijab-wearing victim and repeatedly kicked her in the body and punched that same victim about the face. Horne then told the victim, in sum and substance, to "get out of this country," as alleged by authorities."
"Just a few minutes later, around 2:25 p.m., Horne is accused of attacking a 12-year-old at the intersection of Gelston Avenue and 92nd Street in Brooklyn. Authorities accuse Horne of approaching a hijab-wearing 12-year-old and punching her in the face. The alleged attack on the child caused the victim to suffer redness about the face, substantial pain and fear. The third incident alleged by authorities took place around 2:36 p.m. in the vicinity of 92nd Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn."
Megan Horne, 34, of Willowbrook, Staten Island, was arrested and charged with 21 offenses including third-degree assault as a hate crime, aggravated harassment, menacing, and endangering the welfare of a child. Authorities allege a series of attacks in Brooklyn on Jan. 30 between 2:20 and 2:36 p.m. Horne allegedly approached a hijab-wearing woman at 8902 5th Avenue, kicked and punched her and told her to "get out of this country." Minutes later Horne allegedly punched a hijab-wearing 12-year-old at Gelston Avenue and 92nd Street, causing redness, pain, and fear. A third reported incident involved pushing a bus passenger.
