"The New York Islanders announced that prospect Jesse Nurmi will miss four to six weeks after undergoing a procedure on his left knee. The 20-year-old winger was projected to begin the year with the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders, but the setback pushes his season debut to mid-to-late October. Drafted 113th overall by the Islanders in 2023, Nurmi emerged as a promising prospect after a standout season with KooKoo in Finland's U20 SM-sarja, tallying 21 goals and 50 points in 41 games."
"Injuries slowed his development in 2023-24, when an early-season issue limited him to just 19 games in Finland, but Nurmi gained valuable North American experience last year with the London Knights after being selected in the CHL Import Draft. He finished with nine goals and 31 points in 58 OHL games, adding 11 points in 17 playoff contests. "I was thinking about the place [London] and think that's the best place for junior hockey in the world," Nurmi said at last season's training camp. "Just how many guys they have put into the NHL from there, and just a great organization.""
"Despite uneven OHL results, Nurmi showed flashes of high-end talent on the international stage. He led the 2024 World Junior Showcase in scoring with six points in four games and later contributed two goals and five points at the 2025 U20 World Junior Championships. Nurmi's injury may take him out of training camp, but the organization should remain encouraged by his long-term upside. Once healthy, he will continue his transition to the North American game."
