Zohran Mamdani accused Andrew Cuomo of being Donald Trump's puppet, criticizing Cuomo for issuing statements that avoided naming the president and calling that an act of cowardice. Cuomo responded that he had condemned political weaponization of the justice system and pushed back on Trump’s pandemic policies while governor. Cuomo denied holding a call with Trump about the mayoral race and said his last conversation with Trump was around the 2024 assassination attempt on the then-presidential candidate. Mamdani said he had not spoken with Trump. Cuomo warned that a Mamdani victory could embolden Trump to target New York.
