"The New York Islanders pulled off a massive comeback win against their crosstown rivals, the New York Rangers, on Thursday. After blowing a 2-0 lead, the Isles surrendered four unanswered goals to go down 4-2. But then, the Rangers fell apart in the third period, giving up a three-spot. The Islanders gritted out a gutsy, 5-4 win. The key to the Isles' victory came on two goals from camp hopeful Gleb Veremyev. The 22-year-old scored twice, including the equalizer at the 15:17 mark of the third period. Veremyev's second goal of the night capped off an impressive showing for the undrafted NCAA star."
"Veremyev notched his first goal of the night, scoring the first of two goals the Islanders would score about 23 seconds apart. The Isles took a quick 2-0 lead, but then surrendered three goals in less than three minutes to go down 3-2 after 20 minutes. Rangers' newly minted captain J.T. Miller scored a power play tally to make the game 4-2. That lead, however, would not be safe as the Islanders' rookies came through in a big way. The two-goal performance from Veremyev was the tip of the spear. Cameron Berg had a goal and an assist, while Alex Jefferies had two assists to lead the Isles in the victory."
"Despite his strong showing, Veremyev is an extremely long shot to make the team. Still, his hustle and commitment could land him a full-time role in Bridgeport. Last season, Veremyev played 10 games in the AHL, registering one assist. But that's something that could significantly change. The Monroe Township, New Jersey native scored nine goals and 17 points in 37 games with Colorado College of the NCAA last season. He signed a two-year deal as an NCAA free agent."
