Islanders, Daniil Prokhorov agree to 3-year entry-level contract | amNewYork
Briefly

The New York Islanders signed second-round pick Daniil Prokhorov to a three-year entry-level contract. Taken No. 42 overall, the 18-year-old scored 20 goals in 43 games for MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg. Standing 6-foot-6, Prokhorov is a power forward combining raw strength with natural goal-scoring technique. He used an opt-out clause from a Dynamo Moscow contract to move to North America. Prokhorov is expected to play in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting in 2025-26. The signing continues a developing pipeline of Russian players for the Islanders, including Maxim Tsyplakov and Maxim Shabanov.
Taken No. 42 overall in June's draft, the 18-year-old is coming off a season with Russian junior side MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg in which he recorded 20 goals in 43 games. Standing at 6-foot-6 and not done growing, Prokhorov is a power forward who blends raw strength with a plus natural goal-scoring technique that made him a high-upside prospect for general manager Mathieu Darche to consider.
Prokhorov made the move to North America thanks to an opt-out clause in his contract with Dynamo Moscow, a member of Russia's top-flight league, the KHL. While he will be yet another intriguing young talent to watch at training camp alongside No. 1 overall draft pick Matthew Schaefer and fellow rookies Kashawn Aitcheson and Vitor Eklund, Prokhorov is expected to head to the junior ranks in Canada, where he'll likely spend the 2025-26 season with the OHL's Sarnia Sting.
