Houston Dynamo v Portland Timbers: Hosts thrilled to welcome back Aliyu after trade from Columbus - Soccer News
"We are pleased to welcome Aliyu Ibrahim back to Houston, where he played an important role during two successful seasons with our club. As we continue evolving our system this season, we are looking to add depth to our wingback group, and Aliyu has the qualities to thrive in that role. His ability to cover ground, attack space and contribute on both sides of the ball fits well with the expectations of our wide players."
"To win a game of football against the best teams, you need the players to show hunger. I thought some of our players played like little boys, and they really did. And these are experienced players that have been with us. They played with too much fear, but you need to show courage against better teams."
Ibrahim Aliyu has returned to the Houston Dynamo after being acquired by Columbus Crew in April 2025. He previously played for Houston from April 2023 to April 2025, contributing three goals and three assists in 28 appearances. The Dynamo signed him back to strengthen their wingback position as they continue developing their system this season. Dynamo president Pat Onstad praised Aliyu's ability to cover ground, attack space, and contribute defensively. Houston aims to bounce back after losing 2-0 to Los Angeles FC following an opening-weekend victory over Chicago Fire. Portland Timbers, their upcoming opponent, sit level on points but one place below Houston in the Western Conference standings.
