The Edmonton media suggested trading for Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin, which is unrealistic given his importance to the team. Sorokin has had a strong season and is under a long-term contract, making him essential to the Isles' strategy as they retool rather than rebuild. The rumor has been dismissed previously by Sorokin's agent, reinforcing that Sorokin is not available for trade. Both Sorokin and his agent expressed that such rumors are typical in hockey, though they highlight how disconnected the trade suggestions are from reality.
The idea that the Isles would ship out their franchise netminder, under contract long-term and in his prime, is completely out of touch with where this team is headed.
Ilya Sorokin has a full no-trade clause and has never been part of any trade discussions - not at any point. Surprised this needs correcting, but here we are.
I wasn't surprised by the rumors. It's part of the business. What did surprise me was how seriously people took them.
Trading Sorokin would tear that all down.
