He scored a hat trick in a 9-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 6 after a healthy scratch and has seven goals in seven games since, including two in a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. He switched to Casey Cizikas' stick and has led the NHL in goals over the last two weeks. Playing with Mat Barzal has created space and chances, earning him increased ice time. The four-year deal signed in summer 2024 requires sustained production as the Islanders chase the Pittsburgh Penguins for second in the Metropolitan Division.
