Sources: Jets get their QB, trade with Raiders for Geno Smith
"The New York Jets are trading for the Las Vegas Raiders' Geno Smith, reuniting the quarterback with the team that drafted him in 2013, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday. The Jets are sending a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to the Raiders in exchange for Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick."
"Before the trade was agreed to, Smith agreed to restructure his contract, sources told Schefter. The Raiders still will pay the bulk of it, and the Jets will take on Smith's contract at just over veteran minimum."
The New York Jets traded for quarterback Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders, bringing him back to the franchise that originally drafted him in 2013. The Jets sent a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to Las Vegas in exchange for Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick. Prior to finalizing the trade, Smith restructured his contract, with the Raiders covering the majority of his salary while the Jets assume his contract at just over the veteran minimum. This move allows the Jets to acquire an experienced quarterback at a reduced financial commitment.
