Daboll returns Giants' play-calling to OC Kafka
"Maybe (Daboll) makes some other changes in the way he operates going forward. I talked to him about, 'Do you really believe that it's in our best interest for you to continue calling the plays?'"
"I said, 'I'm not going to demand that you do one thing or the other. But are you better off letting somebody else call the plays?'"
Mike Kafka will serve as the New York Giants' offensive play-caller this season while Russell Wilson is the starting quarterback. Kafka handled most play-calling during his first two seasons under Brian Daboll, though duties were occasionally revoked late in the second season amid discontent. Daboll took over play-calling last year as the team finished 3-14 and 31st in points per game. Ownership questioned whether Daboll should continue calling plays, which shifted momentum toward Kafka. Kafka was recruited from the Kansas City Chiefs to be a play-caller, interviewed for head-coaching jobs, was promoted last offseason, and called plays through spring and summer.
