Woman charged with hate crime after allegedly attacking 2 women and child
"The perpetrator physically attacked them and told them to 'go back to [their] country,'"
"I am outraged by the despicable, cowardly attacks against Muslim New Yorkers in Bay Ridge last week - one of which was on a 12-year-old girl,"
"This violence is unacceptable, and we know that all too often visibly Muslim, hijab-wearing women and girls bear the brunt of it."
A 34-year-old woman, Megan Horne, was arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting and harassing three hijab-wearing individuals in Bay Ridge. Police say the incidents occurred within minutes on Friday afternoon: a 33-year-old woman was kicked and pushed on Fifth Avenue and 89th Street after an alleged anti-Muslim remark; a 39-year-old woman was pushed from behind at a B53 bus stop on Gelston Avenue and 89th Street; and a 12-year-old girl was struck in the face near Fort Hamilton Parkway and 92nd Street. All three victims refused medical treatment. City officials condemned the attacks and labeled them hate crimes.
