Andrew Cuomo in the November election; incumbent Eric Adams ended a reelection bid months earlier. The inauguration will include a private oath at the Old City Hall subway station and a public event on the steps of City Hall. Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, moved to New York at age 7, graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, earned a bachelor's in Africana studies from Bowdoin College, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2018. He is the son of filmmaker Mira Nair and academic Mahmood Mamdani.
