A Staten Islander recorded a porch pirate stealing a package from his front porch in broad daylight. The theft occurred eight minutes after the package was delivered, but the homeowner only discovered it two days later due to a notification issue. The incident has made him more vigilant about package deliveries and led to discussions with neighbors about similar experiences with theft. Others in the area are now considering secure options like lock boxes to protect against theft.
The video shows an individual with several shopping bags calmly walking from the sidewalk through an open gate and into the fenced-in property. The individual, who appears to be a man, takes a few steps on the private walkway before ascending the steps and grabbing a package on the porch.
Eric, whose family has lived for years in the home, expressed shock, noting they never had anything stolen from their front porch like this. This theft occurred in broad daylight in plain view of a big surveillance camera.
Eric explained the aftermath of the theft, stating, 'I have to be much more alert, and the thing is, we have cameras and someone is still stealing.' He now checks notifications and views surveillance footage more frequently.
Another household member mentioned the theft prompted conversations with neighbors, revealing that many have also experienced package theft and highlighting the unfortunate necessity of setting up lock boxes due to theft.
