"Firefighter Patrick Brady, 42, died of a heart attack while responding to an inferno that erupted around 9:38 p.m. at a 6-story apartment building on Kings Highway in Brownsville, Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker announced late Saturday night. "He gave his life protecting this city that he loves and there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening," Adams told reporters of the fallen Queens man."
"Tucker said the 11-year FDNY veteran was working on the roof of the burning building when he went into cardiac arrest. First responders treated Brady at the scene before he was taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he died, the commissioner wrote in an X post. Officials said four other firefighters and one civilian suffered minor injuries."
