Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy traveled from Washington, D.C., to New York on Amtrak’s new NextGen Acela to promote U.S. DOT initiatives and the agency’s takeover of the Penn Station renovation. Amtrak senior advisor Andy Byford announced a search for a master developer to create a plan for New York Penn and promised shovels in the ground by 2027. Byford emphasized first improving station efficiency, including running trains through Penn rather than terminating there, and ruled out razing the block south of 31st Street.
