Thomas Foley, 55, served as a city engineer for over 30 years, rising to the commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction. He will leave that role in August to join the Mount Sinai Health System. Foley began his career in 1992 at the Department of Environmental Protection and later joined the Department of Design and Construction in 1998. He expressed pride in his career achievements and a desire to continue supporting local non-profits following his departure from city service.
After 30 years working for the city, starting off as a civil engineering intern to become commissioner, it certainly checked off all the boxes.
I said, 'Wow, I could actually be an engineer in the field, managing construction projects on behalf of the city...What could be better than that?'
I would love to continue to help out and work for a local non-profit and help out in any way I can, and also step aside for the next commissioner.
