Staten Island JCC marks Oct. 7 anniversary with survivor testimonies
"The JCC hosted Liz Hirsh Naftali -- an advocate for hostages and humanitarian rights -- on Sept. 28 to discuss her book Saving Abigail: The True Story of the Abduction and Rescue of a Three-Year-Old Hostage. Naftali is the great-aunt of Abigail Mor Edan, a three-year-old Israeli-American who witnessed her parents' murder and was held hostage by Hamas. Thanks to Naftali's relentless efforts, Abigail was returned to her family after 50 days of captivity."
"On Sunday, the JCC welcomed Nova Music Festival survivor, Rotem Asner, for a free screening of the documentary We Will Dance Again. The documentary narrated the tragic events of the Nova Music Festival that occurred during the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas. The screening concluded with a discussion by Asner, as she reflected on her personal experiences at the festival and how she is coping in its aftermath."
The Joan & Alan Bernikow JCC of Staten Island commemorated the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 terror attacks on Israel with programs focused on unity, survival and resilience. Programs gathered Staten Island's Jewish community to honor the lost, support survivors, and express solidarity with Israel under the theme "Hope and Resilience." Events included a Sept. 28 presentation by Liz Hirsh Naftali about Saving Abigail, raising funds for the Hostages and Missing Families Forum after securing her great-niece's return. The JCC screened We Will Dance Again with Nova Festival survivor Rotem Asner and will host photographer Shye Klein.
