Approximately 2,500 of these kits are distributed throughout Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. It's a time when the entire congregation comes together to make a difference in the world. Over 100 volunteers gathered inside Temple Emanu-El to pack gifts for the annual Mitzvah Day and to address rising food insecurity amid SNAP distribution delays. Volunteers assembled approximately 2,500 kits containing food, hygiene products, school supplies, warm clothing, and other essential items. The kits are distributed throughout Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn via long-standing partner organizations. The congregation prepared varied packages including essential item kits, personal hygiene and dignity kits, busy boxes for children in treatment, and birthday boxes for isolated seniors. An emergency food drive was launched in response to SNAP cuts and government shutdown-related delays. Longtime volunteer Susan Kaufman underscored the imperative of aiding those facing hunger.
