New York law requires 70% of power for residents and businesses to come from renewable sources by 2030. The state is roughly 15 gigawatts short of that goal and renewable investments are falling. NYPA cut 1.5 GW from its strategic plan and has only planned for about a third of the needed 15 GW, prompting public outcry and leadership-focused legislation. The Public Renewables Transparency Act requires NYPA to publish conferral reports, accept remote stakeholder comments, incorporate feedback, and join the state energy planning board. Advocates secured an additional $200 million for NYPA to build renewables.
