"Six people were shot at the West Indian American Day Parade in Brooklyn, New York, on Monday, ending what was supposed to be a happy celebration for thousands of revelers in bloodshed. Roughly two miles were designated for the official parade route, kicking off the festivities on Utica Avenue near Lincoln Terrace Park around 11 a.m. Festival goers traveled westward toward the Brooklyn Museum as NYPD officers were stationed around to keep an eye on the celebration."
"They were taken to the Kings County Hospital Center and were listed in stable condition, said the NYPD. In another shooting, a 26-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were both shot on Eastern Parkway around 6:30 p.m. The man was shot once in the chest, while the woman was hit in the shoulder, said police. Five shell casings were found at the scene, but the shooter is still at large."
Thousands of people attended the West Indian American Day Parade along a roughly two-mile route from Utica Avenue near Lincoln Terrace Park westward toward the Brooklyn Museum. NYPD officers were stationed around the route and some attendees welcomed the heavy police presence as a deterrent to troublemakers. The celebration turned violent near its end when six people were shot in three separate incidents across Eastern Parkway and Nostrand Avenue. Victims ranged in age from their 20s to their 50s; all six were transported to hospitals and are expected to survive. Several mayoral candidates attended the parade.
