City and state elected officials pushed to restore service to Forest Hills and to run full eight-car trains on weekends, but initial efforts fizzled. Transit advocates revived the campaign in late January and 30 groups, including Mets owner Steve Cohen and Open Plans, sent a letter to Gov. Hochul, Mayor Mamdani and the MTA calling for weekend lengthening. Mayor Mamdani said the idea is under review, and riders describe restoration as vital and long overdue.
