Police are investigating a trio that stole tens of thousands of dollars from elderly residents in banks on the Upper East Side. Victims, mostly in their late 80s and 90s, were approached for help with ATMs, during which time the suspects swiped their cards and made unauthorized transactions. Nine incidents occurred from May to June, resulting in losses exceeding $50,000. Although grand larceny citywide is down 7% this year, the 19th precinct reports a 5% increase in such incidents, totaling over 770 reported thefts this year.
