NYC Mayor's Race: Independent attorney Jim Walden exits contest, urging other low-polling candidates to do the same | amNewYork
"For months I have been steadfast in my view that, unless there is a one-on-one race in November, a Trojan Horse will take control of City Hall, Walden said. For those still trailing in the polls by month's end, I implore each to consider how history will judge them if they allow vanity or stubborn ambition to usher in Mr. Mamdani."
"Today Jim Walden put ego and ambition aside for the good of New York City, Azzopardi said in a statement. His decision underscores the existential threat our city faces in Z"
Jim Walden, a low-polling independent attorney, withdrew from the New York City mayoral general election to try to force a one-on-one race against Zohran Mamdani. Walden said his move followed a July proposal that candidates not polling second to Mamdani should drop out and back the remaining challenger. Walden argued Mamdani’s democratic socialist views, past support for defunding the police, and criticism of Israel make him too extreme to be mayor, despite Mamdani saying he has moderated. Walden urged other free-market and trailing candidates to withdraw to prevent Mamdani’s victory.
