Cameron Meade, a 21-year-old from northwest Indiana, is competing in Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Independence Day. Preparation includes fasting for two to three days and drinking gallons of water to expand his stomach. In June, he ate 25 hot dogs in 10 minutes to earn his Coney Island spot. Meade began competitive eating at Indiana University-Bloomington, where friends were astonished by his appetite. He practices by consuming over 10,000 calories during run-throughs.
