More than a dozen nurses were arrested after refusing repeated NYPD orders to clear the entrance of the Greater New York Hospital Association headquarters in Midtown. The arrests occurred on Day 25 of the four-week strike, the longest nurses' strike in NYC history. The New York State Nurses Association represents about 15,000 striking nurses who gathered with labor and community leaders, including the New York State AFL-CIO and NAACP, for a day of action during Black History Month. Nurses linked arms, chanted slogans, and accused hospital executives of prioritizing profits over patients and fair contracts. The GNYHA represents over 280 hospitals and had been critical of strike impacts at major systems.
