"THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) - A woman in New York was beaten to death in the hospital room she shared with an emotionally disturbed patient with a history of attacking people in the hospital, according to police and law enforcement sources. Cynthia Vann, 55, checked into NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln in New York City for an underlying medical condition when she was punched multiple times in the head at around 3 a.m. on Sept. 10, according to the New York City Police Department."
"Vann was in critical condition before succumbing to her injuries on Sept. 27, police said. The medical examiner said she died of blunt force trauma and deemed the incident a homicide, according to sources. Authorities are still looking for Haughton, who disappeared while the Bronx District Attorney's Office was investigating the incident as a homicide and waiting for evidence of the assault from the hospital, sources said."
"The suspect allegedly attacked a nurse in the hospital in July and assaulted a patient care associate on Sept. 11, the day after the fatal beating, sources said. Haughton allegedly slapped the patient care associate in the face and said, "Why did you squeeze my hand so hard?" Haughton was arrested and charged in both incidents and released without bail for the July incident, according to court records."

Vann was intubated in the ICU and remained in critical condition before dying on Sept. 27; the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide due to blunt force trauma. Haughton disappeared while the Bronx District Attorney's Office investigated and awaited hospital evidence. Haughton allegedly attacked a nurse in July and assaulted a patient care associate on Sept. 11; she was arrested and released without bail. Cases are pending.
