The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs inducted five new Cultural Institutions Group members, one from each borough, expanding the program to 39 institutions. New members receive long-term city support including an annual operations subsidy. The induction at BRIC in Brooklyn brought local politicians and institution staff together; the Staten Island contingent traveled by yellow school bus. Special attention was given to arts organizations led by people of colour and to supporting institutions in historically underserved communities. The expansion represents the largest growth of the program since the 1970s. The Cig program defines members as private non-profit organisations serving as public goods.
