Briefly

New York City FC have won three consecutive MLS matches, defeating FC Cincinnati, Nashville SC and FC Dallas. The team has conceded 30 goals, the second-fewest in the Eastern Conference behind Philadelphia Union. Captain Thiago Martins returned from surgery and played 90 minutes, providing a boost to the lineup. Head coach Pascal Jansen credits defensive aggressiveness, tactical focus and players being switched on for the recent results. Alonso Martinez leads the club with 14 goals and has reached 30 career goals for NYCFC. The next opponent is D.C. United, who sit bottom of the East.
"That is one of our qualities as a team. That is what defines us. Being on top of things, being aggressive and switched on," said Jansen after their 1-0 win over Cincinnati. "That was a part of our focus and a part of our plan against Cincinnati, and they [the players] did it quite well and it helped us get to a good level in the game and build from there."
"Thiago is our captain, a huge piece of our team. It is a big thumbs up to the medical staff for allowing Thiago to play 90 minutes after coming back from surgery just four weeks ago. It helped us, like I said he is a huge part of our team."
