Nearly 1,000 pounds of illegal drugs, guns found in Dyker Heights takedown
""For them to pick to this building to operate an illegal safe house, storage house, distribution center - We are not playing," said Kaz Daughtry, deputy mayor for public safety."
""I'm surprised because it's a safe neighborhood, and I didn't expect this to happen in this area," said Wing Cheung, who lives in the building."
""Seven apartments?" said Cheung. "No, never heard of it. Everyone here is super nice and friendly. It's like mostly like families that live here.""
Authorities executed multiple warrants at Dyker Gardens condominiums on 63rd Street near 13th Avenue and seized nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana and other drugs, about $500,000 in cash, two illegal firearms, and five cars. Officials arrested four men and two women and said the group used seven apartments as a hub for drug trafficking and money laundering. The luxury building sits between two schools in a residential neighborhood. One child who lived in a condo was placed into ACS care. Residents expressed surprise and described the building as mostly families and a safe neighborhood. Officials characterized the operation as an illegal safe house and distribution center.
